For fuck's sake, **we get it.**

But nickle and dime is one of the things that Apple does better than any company.

Look at the prices they charge for their ageing mac lineup. Or how about when you buy an ipad pro they toss in the slow charger instead of the 29 watt one. The exorbitant prices they charge for memory or hard drive upgrades. The ridiculous prices for shitty watch bands. The cost for simple dongles and adapters that you shouldn't need in the first place if the product was designed properly. And on and on.

Sure, but they're not going to exclude an essential accessory. That would be like selling an iMac without a keyboard and mouse. Not their style. They're more about the up-sell.

Additionally, I don't even think Apple *wants* to sell you those over-priced adapters. They'd rather not deal with them at all.

Apple don't want you to be using a VGA adapter, they'd rather VGA didn't exist at all. However, reality forces them to begrudgingly sell you that adapter.

Same here. They want analog audio connectors to go away, but that can't happen overnight, so they need to make an adapter.

Of all the times to stop shipping headphones with the iPhone, this would be the absolute worst. They're trying to convince customers that Lightning is a better way. There's going to be enough pushback as it is. They have to include Lightning earbuds in order to sell people on the transition.

Like when they included Firewire cables and blank DVD-R discs when they first introduced those technologies to their products, but stopped including them once they became more mainstream.

I think we actually agree more than disagree here.

Remember when the first few generations of iPod came with docks?

Eddie:
The first iphone also came with a dock, of nice quality and a little bit of heft to it.

I miss those days.

Holy Christ in Hell, enough with this goddamned speculation about fucking headphone jacks.

My guess is wired Lightning headphones but Grubs does have a good point about that implying that wireless isn't good enough or not the way forward. Dunno. Still haven't seen a good reason to remove the jack and it seems Grubs doesn't have one either.

Exactly. There is none, not that I've seen.
