The only form of life lower than a Gawker writer is a Gawker commenter.

I'm in the "fuck Gawker" crowd, but the quotes seen here from others are correct: the other sites are better and the ones that were built on solid business models.

I'm sure a world where billionaires get to decide which websites survive is the one we want.

[I, too](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elizabeth_Báthory), understand [Peter Thiel's need for young blood](http://www.vanityfair.com/news/2016/08/peter-thiel-wants-to-inject-himself-with-young-peoples-blood).

Or maybe those websites shouldn't go around publishing private videos of other people's sexual encounters without their consent.

Who gives a rat's ass that a billionaire was the one who took them down?

Peter Thiel did not take down Gawker.

Nick Denton's complete lack of a journalistic compass did.

As for "a world in which billionaires get to decide which websites survive" ... um ... you're already living in one. Remember TUAW? It got scuppered for not making *enough* money. Most of the newspapers and TV in the US is in the hands of six companies. Most of those companies own the big-time websites you've heard of.
