To Be Fair:
>Paula Pyers, a senior director at Apple in charge of supply-chain social responsibility, said the company plans to increase scrutiny of how all its cobalt is obtained.

So, why isn;t this already being done, instead of just being "planned"?

One would think a senior director in charge of supply-chain management would have already known about this issue long ago.

jesus christ, they can't do everything at once. they've already cleaned up a lot of the supply chain, and frankly, taking this on is just gravy. it's not like apple is sourcing the the cobalt to make their own batteries, they're buying batteries from someone else. the supply chain should be their responsibility.

that said - no fucking way would i go down in one of those holes.

Harsh conditions, child labor. Yeah, a jealous Amazon looks to make top dog Apple look bad. The Post needs to get off their high horse. The Washington Post, owned by Jeff Bezos, is simply his mouthpiece. Already burned (not literally like the Samsung Note 7) by the failure of the Fire phone, Apple is now looking to compete further with the Home market of the IoT with its new products like the Apple TV and who knows what going up against Amazon's Echo & Alexa. That's what's really going on here.

It seems like the Congo should be one of the richest countries in the world, except it's run by Africans. In this case, they're dealing with the Chinese.

Maybe they will boycott all the cobalt mined this way, and these people will have to find another way of life. Sorry guys! We've decided it's not cool for you to live this way.
