> It’s the same trade-off with the iPhone 7 headphone jack.

By which, you mean a "pain in the ass." Or is it a shit sandwich?

I suppose it can be two things.

Depressed:
Trade-off: A balance achieved between two desirable but incompatible features.
Nothing in the non-audio-jack in the iPhone or not having additional USB-A gives advantages to the user.
NOTHING!

You paid for some dongle which is exactly what Apple wanted to achieve (Profitability).

Tim Cook:
Team,

Apple's profits are down for the first time in 15 years.

But worry not, I have a plan. Reviewers claim that new MacBook Pros are:

[Ars Technica Review: The $1,499 2016 MacBook Pro is an expensive MacBook Air on the inside](http://arstechnica.com/apple/2016/11/review-cheapest-2016-macbook-pro-is-good-but-its-missing-all-the-cool-stuff/)

So, we will introduce a new line of Macs called "MacBook Pro 2" which will adress some of these issues. We will also remove all ports and leave just a single USB-C port, like MacBook, so that people have to buy more adapters.

We are also renaming all our Apple Stores to Adapter Stores.

Make Apple Great Again.

Vanilla Dry Ice:
When will Apple support my need to connect an OKIdata dot-matrix printer with a parallel port-to-USC-C adapter?

No?

Then I will use my position as a prominent nerdy tech blogger to yell really, really loudly about something only the people who show up at WWDC give a flying fuck about.

Haha, so Gruber says Apple is doing the Right Thing™ by forcing people to move to USB-C, but then he goes on to describe how he himself did _not_ go and replace his USB-A devices with USB-C and instead just bought dongles to use his old devices. Actually even worse than having the damn USB-A port on the machine in the first place.

Man Grubs is really stretching to justify this nonsense. Didn't he just say something the other day about how he is skeptical of tech that is promised to be good in the future?

i actually think gruber is right about this one. yes, it's a pain in the ass, in the short term. i ordered a dozen USB-C to USB-A adapters on aliexpress, because they're 64 cents each, so why not? and when i need to replace things, i'll buy the USB-C versions instead of the USB A ones. if the MBP still had a USB-A port, i'd probably buy the USB-A device, because i'm sure it'll be a little cheaper. so gruber is right in that it will bring about adoption of USB-C faster.

>so gruber is right in that it will bring about adoption of USB-C faster.

Sure, just like how everything got Mini Displayport connectors after Apple chose that as the video output interface.

Gruber has made so many defensive posts in a row. Remember the old days, when he'd link to glowing reviews of Apple products and then post some smug comment about the competition?

No you won't but I'll laugh at you in any case.

Only a fucking moron buys some super-expensive computer and then skimps on fucking cables.... cables which can destroy their expensive computer.

It really boggles my mind how retarded some people are.

yeah, let's talk about retarded. usb-c to usb-a is a straight through connector. there's nothing that _can_ go wrong, unless some of the pins are shorted. you clearly have no idea what you're talking about, so be quiet and let the grownups talk.

yeah, likely a case of a cheap, unshielded dongle. this has been a known issue for a long time.

that means absolutely nothing. maybe the dell was using a different wireless band. this guys troubleshooting skills are basically nonexistent, as are yours.
