This seems like the last thing I would want for myself or customers.

In general, receiving notifications and emails from an app is fucking obnoxious.

There have been dozens if not hundreds of times an app sends an email, notification or shows an update and I realize I haven't used it. Serves as a reminder to clean house and delete it.

If the app is useful then people will use it and/or purchase it. Period.

Push notifications, emails, etc. are as annoying as in-app purchases.

i dunno. on the face of it, it seems obnoxious, but spark (email client) did a 'tip of the day' push message that had stuff i didn't know was in it. it was useful.

if i get notifications that are intrusive or annoying, it's a great little reminder to delete the app and my phone stays less cluttered.
