Latest... Apple Watch update ended up bricking them so Apple removed the update.

no, JG, your analogy update is not good.

a watch telling you "it's around quarter past eight" would be

not "wearing no watch"

How can something be not as funny as something that was never funny to begin with?

Dumb Grub:
This blog is a total fucking cringe binge

1. In an uncharacteristically heretical move, Grub takes a swipe at Daddy Apple

2. Grub immediately regrets it. Tortured, he makes a useless post whose only purpose is to reframe the swipe as a 'joke'

3. Still agonised by his betrayal, Grub posts AGAIN, this time overtly walking back the snub.

What a cunt.

fewer significant digits? so you want to see something like "5:4 remaining"? wtf does that even mean?

daniel:
For what it's worth, I've been planning to return my 13" MBP with touch bar because the battery life was such bullshit. The most I'd ever seen, with no apps running, 100% charge was just over 5 hours. Which quickly dropped to 4.5 hours within mins of launching Safari (with Flash disabled).

BUT, after this latest OS update with the time estimate removal, I unplugged this morning and had 7 hours and 15 minutes. HOURS longer than it has ever estimated before… So, maybe it is all just in the software? Still a far cry from 10 hours, but in real life my first few days with it I was getting less than 3 hours with any kind of actual use. So we'll see. I'm just glad I have until 1/8 to return it.

what is JG using slack for anyway

Round it to the nearest 5% and add a tilde.

~3:45 and ~0:13 would be more practical and trustworthy than 3:52 and 0:13

If only there was other software that could estimate the time remaining on the MacBook battery.

Daring Hemorrhoid:
Maybe the battery estimator was causing battery drain by poking the battery subsystem too often.

Oh irony, your bite is so sharp.

@ daniel

i have a 15" with touch bar. i was seeing shit battery life too, but a couple days ago i did a clean install and restored my stuff from a time machine backup. i'm now seeing 7-8 hr estimates (i'm using istat menus, so i still get an estimate).

not sure if it was the fresh install or just cycling the battery a few times to get it all calibrated and broken in, but it's better than it was.

Generally you discharge the battery to recalibrate it.

These are the hoops that Apple people would laugh at Windows users for having to jump through.

The new Apple is restart, reinstall, and if necessary return for a refurbished unit.

Ridiculous.

Should have used nvidia but I don't think it would have mattered, the battery is too small.

i don't think have to reinstall and whatnot would be normal. i do a lot of fucking around, and i could have put it into a weird state, so i don't blame apple for my issues. i was just suggesting that it might help others.

sounds like daniel's worked itself out without him having to do anything.

Don't forget after you import old photos into a new Photo database (or however you do it) it shits the bed for about an hour per thousand shots (roughly) doing all that face and person recognition palaver, and every machine doesn't its own one (I don't that info can be transferred from one mac or iOS device to another). Chews the battery like hell for quite a while after setup.
