For the most part, yes, the masses are asses. There are however some niche sites like [RateBeer](https://www.ratebeer.com/beer/brooklyn-black-chocolate-stout/531/) where the users take every point they assign very, very seriously.

On IMDB, users are generally much more moderate with their ratings (although younger users tend to give everything 10 stars more often).
