Far be it for me to actually defend Google here, but AMP is much closer to being publisher-controlled than Apple News or Facebook will ever be. AMP is only really a "silo" in the sense that Google will exploit your AMP documents to optimise search rankings and results, and speed loading when the results are tapped with the Google CDN; from the publisher's point of view it's just adding the alternate documents (basically just restricted HTML) to your publishing platform and then marking the versions to reference one another using related links in the document headers. And of course anybody can join the fun, not just the illuminati approved for consumption by Apple or Facebook.

I think we all know the real story here, John.

Avoid.:
I"ve been trying to avoid AMP and Apple News and similar. I don't want a proxy which adds geographic restrictions to content depending on where my google account or apple id is registered. I just want a url that can access the content.
