i dunno man, if you're downoading directly from a known site, it's not really your fault. although perhaps downloading a ripping app onto your work computer is a bad idea.

Handbrake isn't a ripping tool. It's a media conversion tool. And a developer like Panic may well have a business need for such a tool.

Not DRMed media. Not without help anyway. But no one uses Handbrake to rip anything. MakeMKV is what all the hip kids use today,

FWIW it's a great way to convert MKV to mp4 that can airplay. I never use to rip a DVD, who even does that?

Then they are doing it wrong.

You are (probably) doing this wrong too. If your mkv files are already using h264 for the video stream, then that part is already compatible with AirPlay. Try using Subler to remux the mkv file into an m4v file. No re-encoding involved, except maybe the audio if you choose/need to (like for DTS tracks). Takes mere seconds to do.

Aren't we all? Only a juvenile would lurk around here.

They're doing *what* wrong? It works effectively for what they need to do, and it's easy to use. Why is that wrong?

I see it widely used amongst film and media studies professors and students to rip clips from DVD to use for things like research and class presentations.

How should they be doing it?

Also, it doesn't matter if *you* think they're doing it wrong, it's a fact that they're doing it. Which makes you wrong when you claimed that nobody does it.

I know most would disagree and many just cannot realistically do it but I've been moving away from non App store apps whenever possible for things like this.
