More jackasses than Trump?

The concept sucks. (Retail is changing and corner stores are not "great." But not in this direction. Next-hour delivery. Amazon Go. Apple Stores. Nordstrom.)

The name sucks.

The business model sucks. (Rosner hurts her credibility by using the term "bourgeois sterility" but is largely correct.)

Gruber's Bleeding Heart:
Not that I disagree with his opinion on this topic...but has anyone noticed how cranky Gruber seems to have been this week? Even a bit anti-Cupertino-ish?

oh for fucks sake. i'm sure buggy whip makers were nice guys that people loved too, but that doesn't mean we should have kept horses and buggies in favor of cars. business changes, and not everything survives.

but yeah, this is a stupid idea.

>Bodegas and corner stores are great.

They really aren't.

Essential for a walkable neighborhood. If you live in the driving burbs, sure, corner stores probably irrelevant. But they are great for closer neighborhoods.

Here in Japan, 'Bodegas' are 100% franchise, and look the same and sell the same stuff from the top of the country to the bottom.

They do nothing to neighbourhoods but make it easy to get stuff. Which is the entire point of convenience stores. This may be a bad idea, but jackasses?

Dude, so many Bodegas are nasty pits of slime that do nothing but suck in the nasty of the neighbourhood.

Legion of Bad Ideas:
Mom and pop store owners are inevitably racist assholes, because they deal with the public EVERY DAY.

If you dealt with the public every day you'd become a racist asshole Trump supporter too.

What's fucking retarded about Gruber is he's fine with Amazon destroying small businesses and bookstores, but when it comes to his bodegas he's all "let's get the pichforks!"

As a note, normal bodegas overprice everything, so these guys might actually be providing decent prices to the poor.

Oh, assholes like Apple want to put people out of business. How many business has the iPhone killed?

In any case I never realized mom and pop corner stores were a liberal protected class. Do Liberals think about that when they go shop at mega-chains?

I just link to it because, frankly, I don't care:

OK, fine, but at least they're trying to *build* something, and not just flinging poop at the accomplishments and ideas of others from the comfort of their blog.

If they're successful in destroying mom-and-pop shops, it's only because enough people decided they like this option better than mom-and-pop stores. In that case, if creative destruction is jackassery\*, then it's customers that are jackasses.

On the other hand, if it's a crummy business model, then it won't destroy mom-and-pop shops, so theirs nothing to worry about.

\* It's not; creative destruction is wonderful. The car destroyed the horse and buggy. Email destroyed the fax. Cell phones destroyed home phones. Smartphones destroyed dumb phones. This is what progress looks like.
