> Twitter begins testing support for 280 characters per tweet. I think this is a mistake. I'd rather see them keep the limit at 140 characters but add support for plain text media attachments—the same way you can add a photo or video to a tweet, you could add a plain text string.

After adding a period to the title and removing the spaces around the em dash, that's exactly 280 chars above. It does strike me as too wordy for a tweet.

how the fuck are text attachments easier than just having longer tweets? this is fucking stupid.

with Gruber 100% on this.

Have you seen any of the 280 char demo tweets? They look like walls of text.

You can scan a lot more content with a limit. Google's limit for search results is about 160 characters.

@ano:

280 characters is a "wall of text"? What the fuck is wrong with you? Did you not learn to read?

Biff:
Twitter is great for people who actually know how to write (i.e. edit themselves)

This will suck.

sure, if you have the attention span of a goldfish. and i love it when there's a chain of 5 tweets to finish a thought, so user friendly.

280 characters is fine, unless you have ADD and can't stand it.

i'll take my extra 140, please. I really liked having 256 characters to use in App.net.

Who gives a rat's ass? 140 characters or 280 characters: both are a monumentally stupid way to carry on conversations.

Yeah, I much prefer to carry out my conversations via extension-enabled comment systems on Apple-related blogs.

Better than Twitter, otherwise people would be using Twitter instead of this extension.

Click to expand. The timeline stays brief for people who like to skim. Encourages people to use a tightly edited summation.
