The deal would have been worth about $45B (!). In other words, 10X what they finally sold for, even more if you account for inflation since that time.

Jerry Yang had the opportunity to take that offer, and it is he who rejected it and held out for more (he wanted ~$50B and Microsoft walked away, after which Yahoo's share price and value immediately tanked.)
